Donald Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsiyng business records yesterday. This writing project exists. It has been kinda neat to learn how to code up a site in html. Once again, perhaps it is not necessary to worry too much about what I spit up in the file. This is always the obstacle that I seem to have trouble with when I am writing. The fact that there is a reader causes an impediment. There is anxiety about the reader. It is quite difficult here to continue.
Tonight I am listening to Ogura Plays Stockhausen', which is cool:
The benefit of typing this in html is that I am forced to take breaks to make sure I markup the images/links properly. It forces a break.
I learned about Stockhausen in a documentary about Foucault's trip to California. Foucault did some LSD in california while listening to Stockhausen. Another great record is
Stockhausen is one of the serialist composers. Later though - a student of Schoenberg and that generation. I like his compositions.
For Badiou 'serialism' names an event in art. 'Event' concerns the concept of change. It seems to be that often artistic forms that come into existence are instantiations of some familiar form of work such that a work of art can be called, for example, metal music or impressionist painting . However an event occurs when a new form appears. There are a few senses of new. 'Event' is the appearence in the world of something new; not familiar, having not been capable of being articulated in the predominant language of a world, being an exception to it, etc. In this sense, for Badiou, an event is not of the world. Yet it is something that occurs in a determinate world. This is a big claim - how can and event be both in and not-in a world? What is a world?' If you take a crack at these questions, you notice it is hard to know where to start. Hence the difficulty of the arguments. I feel more distant from Badiou's views lately, more in a 'vibe' sort of way.
The other sense of novelty is that an event marks the beginning of a new organization of the broader process (eg historical) where it occurs. For Badiou the serialist music composed by Schoenberg is novel in both of these senses - unprecedented and also beginning a reorganization of its field. It is one of the big examples of an event, for him. Stockhausen (above record) is a student of the school that emerged as a consequence of schoenberg. Here are some interesting recordings of Schoenberg's music: https://open.spotify.com/album/24PXZN22HK5n1VlrTun5t1?si=OXvsRfriQGS6hWqiKfyMiwa"
